He is a graduate of Calallen High School in Corpus Christi, Texas. He later began playing college baseball at the University of Missouri.

Southpaw pitcher that was drafted by the Chicago Cubs during the second round of the 2013 Major League Draft. He was later acquired by the Los Angeles Angels via waivers in August 2022. He has also pitched in the New York Mets, Miami Marlins, Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers minor league systems.
He was born in Edmonton, Canada. He and his family later relocated to Texas when he was a child.

He was replaced by Kyle Schwarber as a member of the Cubs active roster during the 2016 World Series.
Although he did not pitch in any games during the 2016 MLB postseason, he was a member of the world series winning Cubs team that defeated the Cleveland Guardians. His team won the series 4-3. He finished his college career ranked in the top-ten for career ERA and strikeouts at the University of Missouri.
