Before glory

He studied mechanical engineering at the Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden. He then apprenticed as an architect in Germany before opening his own office in 1911.

About Sigurd Lewerentz

Helped design the Malmo Opera and Music Theatre, a leading example of Functionalist architecture. One of the main architects for the 1930 Stockholm International Exhibition.

Family Life

He was born in the town of Sando and died in Lund.

Friends and colleagues

He and Dregen both became famed Swedish architects, albeit in different generations.

Fast facts

He also designed furniture; he was known for winning the design contest with Gunnar Asplund of the Stockholm South (Woodland) Cemetery.
